Individual Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents: Dr. Turk’s flexible treatment approach combines cognitive behavioral, narrative and trauma informed modalities of treatment. This allows her clients to safely explore social-emotional needs and challenges. This approach supports gradual change and meaningful gains in self-esteem as well as acquisition of coping strategies. Patients are then able to identify and manage symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, ADHD and complex developmental experiences.
Family Counseling: Dr. Turk utilizes family counseling as an adjunct to the individual work with her clients. Using custom-tailored interventions to meet families ‘where they are at’, Dr. Turk models collaborative problem-solving strategies for families with the objective of having families actively engage in productive dialogue and effectively build communication skills over time.
Parent Guidance Consultation: This short-term episodic consultation model is designed to target parenting challenges and develop action plans that enable parents and guardians to confidently prioritize problem areas. Parents are encouraged to consider proactive and reactive strategies to generate a continuum of supports to implement at home and in the community. Parents are additionally coached to name and celebrate parenting successes – also known as the ‘moments when things click’.
Clinical Diagnostic Evaluations: Dr. Turk provides social-emotional evaluation of children and adolescents. Clinical evaluations are a comprehensive tool that assist with establishing a client’s clinical profile and diagnosis. More importantly, results of the evaluations can help ‘connect the dots’ when parents and educators need clarity to help with treatment and educational planning.
School-Based Consultation: Dr. Turk provides ongoing consultation to school districts across Massachusetts. She supports school psychologists and special educators, offers individual clinical case consultation, and conducts risk assessments, clinical evaluations and neuropsychological evaluations on behalf of school districts.
Parent and Educator Engagement: Dr. Turk presents frequently to parent and educator groups locally and nationally on a broad range of subjects including social and emotional learning, executive functions, emotional regulation, anxiety, and mood disorders. Over the past year she has also presented workshops on adapting to and grappling with the impact of COVID-19 on children, parents and educators.
